NGC 1499, the California Nebula
It is believed that energy and stellar wind from the bright star to the right, Menkib (Xi Persei), is responsible for illuminating and shaping this huge nebula. It spans about 2.5 degrees of our sky and is located approximately 100 light years away in the Perseus constellation.
