Terry Bridges - Friend of RASC Okanagan

Terry Bridges - Friend of RASC Okanagan

Terry Bridges joined the RASC OC in 2009, but his astronomical CV goes back ‘way further than that – to teaching, research, university...youth. But it’s in his time with our club that we confine ourselves here, and particularly for his role as a liaison between the RASC OC and a different OC: Okanagan College. Terry has for years facilitated our use of classrooms at Okanagan College as a place to hold our meetings as well as various special events, and that is the primary impetus for this award. But he’s also helped arrange speakers through his educational and professional astronomy contacts. A steadfast member, Terry attends many of our general meetings, has served on committees, contributed to discussions on countless issues and participated in many of our outreach events. For several years he’s been one of two Canadian Team Leads for a citizen science initiative: the Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network, or RECON, gathering data on occultations by trans-Neptunian objects. Terry enlisted several RASC OC members and various others in the BC Interior to be part of a network that extends southward to the Mexico border. All in all, Terry has more than earned recognition for his efforts. Today, in particular for his work in coordinating and keeping fresh our relationship with Okanagan College, we are pleased to present him with a Friend of the RASC OC Award for 2023.
