M78 is a bright reflection nebula with Magnitude +8.30 found in The Orion Complex.
Being a reflection nebula 1600 light years distant, it shines by reflected and scattered light of nearby stars.
Originally discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1780 and cataloged by Messier in the same year.
Image captured by iTelescope on a privately owned 20" Planewave telescope in Nevada.
