This comet was discovered on March 29/31, 2025 by three people looking through images taken by SOHO's Solar Wind Anisotrophies camera (SWAN) which was estimated at magnitude 11. It had an outburst soon after discovery with reports of magnitude 8.1 and with a 2 degree tail. I set my alarm for 04:30 on the morning of April 13 to attempt to capture the comet and woke up to clouds in the northeastern sky. I'm definitely not a morning person so that was a big disappointment, but the next morning had a favourable forecast. Stellarium showed the comet clearing my neighbours house at around 04:40, so I again set my alarm for 04:30 on April 14 and when I punched in the coordinates from
theskylive.com website, I was very excited to see the comet appear on the screen, and with a tail! The sky was brightening quickly so I didn't have much time to mess with the framing so I started shooting a series of 30 second exposures and went back to sleep. I ended up with 10 usable frames that I stacked to create this image, aligned with the comet which is why the stars are trailing.
