Jupiter Aug. 19/23

Jupiter Aug. 19/23

After weeks of thick smoke, the wind shifted and it was clear enough for me to set up a telescope, still a thin layer of smoke. My neighbours were extremely interested in what I was doing so I gave them a mini sky tour, pointed out Polaris, showed them views of Arcturus, Vega, Alberio, and open cluster M39. Then the jewel of the solar system popped out from behind a tree and the gasps when they looked through the eyepiece was pretty cool, the three of them struggled to hold their phones up to the eyepiece just right to get a pic to share with others. A while later, Jupiter came up over the trees and their reactions were pretty much the same. I took these using the lucky imaging technique, shooting a video at the highest framerate as possible and using software to determine which frames have the best seeing.
