Mare Imbrium, the Sea of Rains

Mare Imbrium, the Sea of Rains

This huge lava filled region was formed by a massive collision of an object estimated around 250 km wide, it has a diameter of 1145 km and is one of the biggest craters in the solar system.

The region is home to three rovers, Luna 17, a remote controlled Soviet rover landed in 1970, Chang'e 3, a Chinese robotic rover landed in 2014, and one that the crew of Apollo 15 used to drive around the surface.
