This was the night/time when we thought we were seeing an auroral ray to the left of the comet. The photo makes it clear that we weren’t. It appears instead to be an irregular vertical aircraft contrail (not to be confused with the obvious horizontal contrail), or perhaps an odd detached bit of noctilucent cloud.
