Eclipse Day, Nov. 14,2012 (#40)

Eclipse Day, Nov. 14,2012 (#40)

Probably the best way to view this eclipse sequence is to move to the 'map' picture to the right which shows where the cruise ship was located on the eclipse track for the event. The following picture shows the telescope assembly that was used to take the following photographs, and then move sequentially left as the events unfold. The background picture is the beautiful and encouraging sunrise that took place before the event. Dave Whalley and myself were on deck reserving our observing positions before 5am when the sky was black and the Southern Cross with alpha and beta Centauri just to the side filled the eastern sky. This sunrise picture was taken later as the sun rose to keep its appointment with the Moon. The eclipse started around 9.10am. Totality was at approximately 10.20am. Hope you will enjoy the experience through these pictures, anticipating what you will see in the much more accessible total eclipse across the mid U.S. in 2017.
