The telescope setup (#38)

This is the setup that was used to take the following images. The picture was taken as totality approached and the solar filter was still in place on the Borg 4" apo refractor (the filter was removed for the totality shots). Attached to the scope is a flip mirror unit which deflects the image up to a 50mm eyepiece (about 20x) for viewing. Flipping the mirror allows the light to proceed directly to the camera at the end of the train to capture photos. The camera was a modified Canon XSi DSLR operating at ISO 400 throughout. My wife Lynn looks blissed out watching the advancing Moon progress toward totality, which is in fact a life altering experience.
