May 2012 – Annular Eclipse Trek
Camera was a Fujifilm Finepix E500; 4.1 Mega Pixels. No practice ahead of time, this was more or less an afterthought in attempting some afocal photos. Everything on the camera was set to Automatic, including ISO, focus, shutter speed & aperture. Trial and error, lots of trial and lots of error. Thank goodness for digital photography.
The camera was simply held up to the eyepiece (camera’s zoom feature not utilized on this picture), hoping that the camera lens and eyepiece were completely flush, keeping stray light from getting in around the sides. Then very carefully depressing the shutter button, not as simple as it sounds, lots of movement. For any number of reasons, many shots attempted were met with varying degrees of “failure”. But great fun, none-the-less.
This picture and those that follow are a sampling of shots I took during the eclipse. They are believed to be in sequence, but then again maybe not.
