So Close Yet So Far
On the morning of October 2, 2015, the waning moon is shown shortly before it moved in front of the bright star Aldebaran (an "occultation" of the star, in astronomical parlance). The apparent closeness of the two objects is a dramatic illusion; Aldebaran is roughly 1.6 billion times farther away than the moon.
