Fast-Moving NEO near The Beehive
On the night of January 26, 2015, the small asteroid 2004 BL86 passed about three lunar distances from Earth -- so close that its motion skews its trail compared to the background stars in this 50 second camera-on-tripod exposure. This shot was taken several hours after closest approach. At right is the star cluster M44, aka The Beehive in the constellation Cancer.
