Southern Milky Way
This overhead Milky Way image was taken on July 1, 2019 near Vicuna, Chile. The two bright stars to the left are alpha and beta Centauri with the Coal Sack between them and the Southern Cross. The amazing number of brighter patches in the vicinity each represent a dark sky wonder in binoculars that I was able to explore with a new friend from Alaska from the exotic site of the Kimal Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama in northern Chile.
Three 20 second exposures were combined in ImagesPlus for this picture which was taken with a modified Canon XSi DSLR, ISO 500, with a Rokinon f2 16mm lens.
