NGC 2244

NGC 2244

The open cluster NGC 2244 is like a jewel box of stars, however the case that appears to contain them is a treasure itself… the Rosette Nebula. The nebula appears faint through a telescope and was seen as a ghostly doughnut surrounding NGC 2244 in this sketch which was done on January 12, 2012. An 8" Dobsonian reflector was used at 57x with a 21mm Ethos eyepiece from Vernon, B.C. An OIII filter was added to bring out the faint nebulosity.
